Suspending lighting fixtures

Luminaire hanging on a hook attached to the ceiling.

Suspending the luminaires can be done in various ways, depending on the place of installation of the luminaire and its type. The easiest way to hang the luminaire on a hook embedded in the ceiling is shown in the drawing. This method is commonly used in residential construction and in various communal and living facilities. Luminaires are also suspended via brackets made of steel pipes or sand traps, through the chains, steel cables. Usually, fittings for fluorescent and mercury sources in factory halls are hung on chains and cords. The diameter of the lines or the dimensions of the chains depend on the weight and number of fittings.

Steel cables for hanging lamps in wet rooms, very humid and with corrosive fumes must be galvanized. The cables at one end should be attached with a drawer that allows for the adjustment of the cable sag. The number of points for supporting or suspending the lines depends on the length of the lines, the number and weight of luminaires suspended on it. These data should be included in the technical design of the lighting installation.

Luminaires intended for installation in hallways, bathrooms, corridors and in some wet rooms are adapted to be fastened with screws to walls or ceilings. The screws should be tightened very carefully, because porcelain parts of the housing break easily when the pressure is too strong or uneven. It is not allowed to nail porcelain or bakelite parts of the frames, as this usually damages the luminaire and prevents it from being disassembled.

Fixing of luminaires in wet rooms with screws: a) on a ceiling, b) on the wall.
